Intern UCO FAQ's

WHAT IS AN INTERNSHIP?

The National Association of Colleges and Employers states that internships “give students the opportunity to gain valuable applied experience and make connections in professional fields they are considering for career paths; and give employers the opportunity to guide and evaluate talent.”

The University of Central Oklahoma defines an undergraduate on-campus internship as a student working with the administrative staff or faculty of a department, school, and college or campus office to gather, organize, and analyze information. These duties should be relevant to both the academic program and the professional goals of the student. The student should be given the opportunity to use his/her academic training while learning new professional skills and broadening his or her perspective of the operation of the unit to which he or she is assigned.

HOW DOES INTERN UCO DIFFER FROM NORMAL STUDENT EMPLOYMENT?

The internships offered through Intern UCO will differ significantly from most student employee positions on campus. Intern UCO is designed to provide students with professional knowledge and skill development consistent with a student’s major and career goals and ultimately provide a transformative learning experience relating back to the Central Six tenets.

CAN THE INTERN ENROLL IN AN INTERNSHIP CLASS?

Students selected as an intern through Intern UCO are not required to enroll in their department's XXX 4900 internship course. If they want, they may enroll in this course after discussion with their advisor and intern supervisor, but will be responsible for tuition and any additional requirements for that course.

WHAT IS INTERN UCO?

Intern UCO is an experiential learning opportunity for UCO students that links classroom knowledge to a practical setting.
